On 14th December, the International Volunteer Service Exchange Conference (IVSEC) held its closing ceremony successfully. Zhang Zhaohui, Director of Guidance Center for Youth Volunteer Action, Central Committee of CYLC, Yu Xiaoxuan, Deputy Secretary General of China NGO Network for International Exchanges, Teng Shengping, Director of the Capital Civic Enhancement Committee Office, Olivier Adam, Executive Coordinator of UNV attended the closing ceremony and addressed speeches. Xiong Zhuo, Secretary-General of Beijing Youth League, Li Jian, Deputy Secretary of Beijing Youth League, Mao Xiaoguang, Shen Xue and representatives from Working Committee of Beijing Muncipal Committee and Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality attended the closing ceremony and addressed their speeches.

On the closing ceremony, Mao Xiaogang, Deputy Secretary of Beijing Youth League, advocated for the establishment of “Belt and Road” volunteer service. Olivier Adam and Xiong Zhuo started the “Belt and Road” Volunteer Service Alliance (BRVSA) with representatives of volunteers. Xiong Zhuo, Secretary-General of Beijing Youth League, conferred the title of “Beijing International Volunteer Service Base” to Beijing International Studies University.

Through in-depth discussion and sharing, the participants have reached the consensus that the mechanism of international volunteerism has to be established and developed profoundly. The “Belt and Road” Volunteer Service Alliance would become a platform to share the resource, to communicate and learn, to bring benefits for peoples, as well as to record the history and friendships. In the future, the Alliance will be dedicated to promote the international exchange and cooperation on volunteer service, to encourage and attract more volunteer organizations from civil society and to strengthen the programmes of volunteer organizations in countries along the BRI. Volunteering as a driving force to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and South-South Cooperation along the “Belt and Road Initiative” would encourage the research on volunteerism among international communities, and the share for results of best practices on volunteerism and its role to promote SDGs. The Conference is a big success which is a new progress for the development of volunteer service and international exchange.
