Sakura was placed into Team 7 with Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, under the mentorship of Kakashi Hatake. Sakura makes it clear that she is in love with Sasuke and hates Naruto because of his imature and uncool behavior. They went on missions, strengthening there bond, and Naruto never fails to impress Sakura and sweep her off her feet when protecting her from danger in Part I, and a bond is created. It is only in Part II that serious feelings begin to develop, but her feelings for Sasuke remains despite his crimes to the point where her feelings for both are almost leveled. Sakura's prescence in Team 7 is usually overshadowed by the actions of Naruto and Sasuke. This is probably because Sakura has led the most normal childhood out of the three. Although she was taunted and made fun of by most of her classmates because of her large forehead, and as a kid was comforted by Ino. Although Sakura has not always possessed any special ninjutsu or taijustu, she excels at manipulating chakra and is highly resistant to genjutsu (illusionary techniques). Her best traits are her intelligence and her excellent control of chakra. The latter ability makes her an ideal candidate as a medical ninja, which Tsunade has observed. Sakura does not excel at any particular type of jutsu, but is equally sufficient in each category. Her chakra control makes mastering new techniques easier. Sakura's intelligence and calmness often makes her the voice of reason in a group of hotheads.

Near the end of part I, Sakura goes through a depression after witnessing Naruto and Sasuke's rather serious feud. At first both harsh on her, Naruto tries to comfort her, but Sasuke abandons the Leaf the same night. The next day, Sakura puts her trust in Naruto to bring Sasuke back. He realizes how much she loves Sasuke and makes her his special 'lifetime' promises to bring him back safely. After seeing the beaten and injured Naruto from his failed mission to bring Sasuke back to Konoha, Sakura realizes she must stop relying so much on others for help, she apologizes and thanks Naruto, who dispite his 1st attempt, states that has a lifetime promise, he'll keep trying to save Sasuke for even a lifetime. She begins training with Tsunade as a medical ninja and begins learning medical based jutsu as well as increasing her body's strength through the focussing of chakra.
