Biography:

Sai joined Team Kakashi as a replacement for Sasuke. His real identity is a member of the Roots division of ANBU and Sai is only his code name. Sai's original mission from Danzou was to gain Orochimaru's trust, locate Sasuke and assassinate him. But after witnessing the brotherly bond shared by Naruto with Sasuke, Sai disobeyed his orders for the first time and vowed to help Naruto save Sasuke.

Having been raised as an assassin in Roots from a young orphan, Sai was taught to eliminate all his emotions. Sai did experience what it was like to have bonds when he befriended a fellow Roots member who became like a brother to him. However, when that person died of an illness, Sai's emotions appear to have relapsed. But his interaction with Team Kakashi has rekindled those emotions, although Sai is still socially clueless.

Abilities and Jutsus:

Ink Beasts Imitation Picture (Ninjutsu) Chojuu Giga allows Sai to animate the animals he draws with ink into life and aid him in battle or to perform tasks. For example, ink lions can be used to attack while ink birds can carry Sai into the air.

Sai's Picture Book (Item) Sai's book holds high sentimental value for him as it is a constant reminder of his bond with his brother. Sai intended it to be a present for his brother, but he died of a disease before it was complete.
